A novel that follows the characters of [[Walter Riley]] and [[Dionyza]].  It is about the reconciliation of love and lust, and how sex and temptation can affect a mind, but in essence, it is a metaphor for how sex sells.  It shows how shallow that mankind can be, but also, that humans are inherently erotic creatures.  That our souls are always at odds with our bodies- how real humanity is versus the societal show that we put on.  We all love sex, dopamine, and endorphins, but many pretend that sex is a sin or that they do not enjoy doing things that general society arbitrarily decides is wrong.  It is about fighting our natures, but also, pursuing pleasure.

The Anaxverse is a fictional universe created and owned by American author, Brandon Somerville. It contains the span of several books and games and takes place on Earth. The author is a real-world paranormal investigator and ghost hunter and has spent decades studying, religions, folklore, mythology, the occult, and philosophy, and built the Anaxverse by applying real-world places and things with magical or dark twists, incorporating what he learned from studies and experiences. The world and projects are not truly pornographic or erotica, but closer aligned to something like the Game of Thrones. Thus while the tales contain sexual elements, the focus is on world-building and character development.

Mr. Somerville’s Lore

Somerville’s stories contain both science fiction and fantasy elements and archetypes and the books chronicle the happenings of Earth over a large span of time. Some of the characters and stories go back thousands of years while others happen in the present or seemingly near future. The world-building is gritty and dark, and within it are several factions of evil forces, each vying to become the most powerful and control the world.

Cosmology

In the Anaxverse, there are several dimensions, and not all stories take place in the physical realm. Instead, as following in the beliefs of the author, the universe is a singular place, meaning the corporeal and incorporeal all exist in the same place at the same time, but on different dimensional layers. The physical world as we know it exists in the center, and emanating in other dimensional directions, exist the other planes. This is due to the frequencies of reality. Whatever inherent vibratory “stuff” that makes up something exists in one of these places. For example, there is the observable matter that makes up the observable cosmos, but there are particles, energy, and other forces called dark matter that cannot be observed, yet must exist in order for reality to function.

This dark matter is what makes up all the creatures and places of the unobservable universe. Ghosts, demonic beings, angelic beings, and others creatures that exist but cannot be witnessed in the physical world are made up of these unobservable, improvable particles. The frequency of solid, observable matter exists in the corporeal, Physical Realm or realm of the living. The author does not have a creator or creator deities in his cosmology because it is assumed that all of the matter and energy of the observable universe- the Physical World – has simply always existed without being created.

Consciousness (mind/spirit) is made up of unobservable particles and energy. This substance vibrates outward in two directions of the binary cosmos. Everything within reality is a truth or fallacy, a 1 or a 0, with only personal, opinionated subjectivity painting it in shades of gray. The Inner Light rests at one end of all existence, being the highest possible frequency of reality, and is an absolute, primordial chaos from which all things are known and from which all things come. It is total objective awareness lacking all semblances of self and subjectivity. The Outer Darkness rests in the exact opposite direction with its frequency being absolute nothingness. It is total and complete ordered structure, an empty nothingness, a void. It is the entropy that seeks to consume all things that are known. Other, seemingly countless dimensional frequencies exist between the absolute everything and the absolute nothing.

Inner Light

The Inner Light rests at one end of all existence, being the highest possible frequency of reality, and is an absolute, primordial chaos from which all things are known and from which all things come. It is total objective awareness lacking all semblances of self and subjectivity a pure oneness with creation. It should be noted that the Inner Light contains all frequencies from the realm of dreams up to itself, and it exists even to a degree in the Physical World in the form of altruistic, heroic, and selfless thoughts and deeds of sentient beings.

Illuminarius

Illuminarius is one of the frequencies just lower than the highest one, the Inner Light. It is a realm populated by philosophers and other seekers of knowledge from within eternity. As a person's mind, knowledge, and wisdom grows, they become ever more aware of reality from a cosmic perspective. If the thinkers here manage to make enough realizations, they can choose to ascend into the Inner Light, at which point they know everything that ever is was or shall be on an intrinsic and infinitely objective level.

Elysium

Elysium (sometimes referred to as the Elysian Fields) is a dimensional frequency below Illuminarius. It is a paradise. It can be different for different observers, but, in essence, Elysium is a pristine Garden of Eden, a perfect city of ethical souls. Here there are no pains, no selfish thoughts. A harmonious and infinite dimension of artists, musicians, and other creators assemble in this land.

Wilderlands

The Wilderlands exist in a frequency below Elysium. This is the realm where the souls of animals reside. If Elysium is a structured garden of pleasures and joy for sentient souls, the Wilderlands are wild, untamed, perfect wilderness for the beings of nature. Every clime of every possible biome exists here where the souls of animals frolic infinitely in their personal ideal habitat until or if they decide to return to the Physical World, reincarnating and experiencing life as a different child of nature until their spirit becomes sentient enough to move past the Wilderlands into higher planes of awareness.

Otherworld

Otherworld is one of the lowest dimensional frequencies of the Inner Light. Many sentient creatures, like humans, often find their souls here after their biological bodies perish. This realm is very similar to the physical world, because it lies just above it on the dimensional plane. Buildings, food, alcohol, clothes- this world has infinite resources because all things exist within the minds of those that dwell here. They live a life without pain, hardship, or death in a familiar setting. Oftentimes, souls that do not want to relinquish the pleasures of the flesh, but also do not desire to reincarnate, stay in this realm for untold time, until they inevitably grow bored and seek loftier frequencies and thoughts.

Dreamlands

The Dreamlands exist almost directly with the physical world. The frequency lies just slightly higher than it, and it is the lowest dimensional vibration of the Inner Light. This is where the consciousnesses of mortal beings go when they sleep. It is a chaotic place where the imagery of the physical realm and experiences of biological entities clash like ocean waves against the boundaries of the Inner Light. It follows no rules and minds wander about this place as their bodies rest, traversing the ever-shifting, unpredictable, and strange dimension.

Physical World

The Physical World (sometimes referred to as the realm of the living or life realm) is the dimension most familiar to human’s whose bodies are still in the state we call “living”. This realm is made up of observable matter. It is in this place that absolute lifelessness (the Outer Darkness) and absolute life (Inner Light) collide. The lifeless matter and coursing energy in this realm is, by nature, inherently mindless. However, under the correct conditions, matter fuses with energy, creating the state known as life, creating organic matter. Living matter exists to reproduce and evolve. As it evolves upon a world, it may lead to ever-higher levels of consciousness via adaptations, mutations, and evolution. This leads to higher awareness and sentience of the energy inhabiting the organic matter. Ultimately, those minds will become complex enough to be self-aware. At this point, upon bodily death of organic matter, the consciousness that was created through the metamorphosis of living a life, will ascend or descend through frequencies based on its state of mind.

The more evil, twisted, or selfish a mind is, the more likely it is to be aligned on a frequency within the Outer Darkness. The more benevolent, altruistic and selfless a mind is, the more likely it is to be aligned on a frequency within the Inner Light. There is no trial or sentencing or judgment of the dead, because their deeds and behaviors, and state-of-minds, literally control their fates. A person’s behaviors and true spirit are a dial on a cosmic radio and it tunes the frequency naturally. Spirits can very easily move from higher frequencies downwards, but it takes hard work and dedicated realizations to move back up. In this way, some spirits will act as guardian angels or even return to the Physical World to reincarnate.

Purgatory

Purgatory is the first frequency of the Outer Darkness, and exists just below the Physical Realm. Just as the Dreamlands are the place that the living go when they sleep, Purgatory is the place the dead go when they sleep. These sleeping dead are often confused, muddled souls. While, they, themselves, will be mostly invisible to those in the realm of the living, the effect of their behaviors in their phantom, dream state can be witnessed. They may haunt their old house, unaware or vaguely aware that the living are there. They may not even realize that they are dead. If they open a door or a cabinet in their dead dream, they may be actually opening the door or cabinet in the corporeal world, and this tends to scare the living that witnesses it. Many ghosts haunt this plane, and some, known as residual hauntings, will continue reliving the same actions, caught in a spiritual dream or nightmare, unaware of the living around them.

Underworld

The Underworld works in exact relation to the Otherworld and is one of the highest dimensional frequencies of the Outer Darkness. Many unscrupulous, unethical spirits reside here after they die. This realm is very similar to the physical world, because it lies just below it on the dimensional plane. Buildings, food, alcohol, clothes- this world has infinite resources because all things exist within the minds of those that dwell here. However, the denizens of this place are greedy and self-serving. They will fight, coerce, and even enslave weaker souls to feel more powerful. These dead often relive their addictions, be it drugs, theft, or even murder, able to kill and maim other spirits here, which then cannot die and do regenerate, only to be harmed anew.

Tartarus

Tartarus is a realm of pain and torture. This is a realm where the truly psychotic and sadistic find their minds upon dying. They are not the greedy addicts and forlorn souls of the Underworld but are instead truly evil, disturbed souls that gain wicked pleasure through acts of cruelty. Emotional, mental, and physical abusers, serial killers, sociopaths, and other unsavory souls spend their eternity here, torturing or being tortured. The moment one of their minds detaches from a physical anchor upon death, to appear here, the others nearby try use the opportunity to pounce on the newly arrived spirit before it has a chance to understand what is happening or where it finds itself.

Hellscape

The Hellscape is a vast alien wilderness populated by demons. Lilin, Aka Manian, Nergalian, and other demons roam this place. It is a turbulent realm where the evil gods, devils, and demons wage war upon each other, vying for power. Worshippers from the different cults, such as the Cult of Corruption, find their souls here upon their demise. Forever bound to beings of infinite, unfathomable evil, they spend eternity serving their masters and fighting an infinite eternal war for power.

Shadowlands

The Shadowlands are the dimensional frequency just above the absolute nothingness of the Outer Darkness. It is a place devoid of almost all light and is populated by cosmic horrors. The spirits here are beyond the petty cruelty of the Underworld, beyond the paltry desires to inflict pain like Tartarus, and beyond the futile machinations of demons. These monsters will rise up on occasion and drag those of the Underworld, Tartarus, Hellscape down into the Shadowlands to steal their minds and use them in much darker, far more insidious plans. These spirits desire to come back to the Physical World and make it their own, and are usually souls with high intellect, but a lack of ethics, and a desire for power. Often referred to as Shadow People or Shadow Demons, they intend to absorb all life all frequencies into a singular empty void of shadow.

Outer Darkness

The Outer Darkness rests in the exact opposite direction to the Inner Light with its frequency being absolute nothingness. It is total and complete ordered structure, an empty nothingness, a void. It is the entropy that seeks to consume all things that are known. Other, seemingly countless dimensional frequencies exist between the absolute everything and the absolute nothing. It should be noted that the Outer Darkness contains all frequencies from the realm of Purgatory down to itself, and it exists even to a degree in the Physical World in the form of evil, villainous, and selfish thoughts and deeds of sentient beings.

Other Realms

It should be noted that while everything exists between the Outer Darkness and the Inner Light, all the dimensional vibrations mentioned in this article are not the only ones. An almost infinite number exists between the two. An example not mentioned here, but mentioned in the novel Desideratum: Blood Bonds is Niflheim, The World of Fog and Mist.

Folklore and Fantasy

Some of the stories contain actual creatures from real-world folklore. For example, in Desideratum: Blood Bonds, Absinthe Van Gothen fights, vampires, mermaids, werewolves, and goblins to name a few. There also appear in the Anaxverse dieties from real-world religions such as in the novel, Cult of Corruption: The Summoning, the Babylonian god Nergal, god of war, pestilence, and disease. There are also demons such as succubi as seen in the novel, Of Sex and Souls: Noir Nights, like Dionyza.

Science Fiction

Mr. Somerville often uses science fiction in the Anaxverse by either referring to laws of physics and science or through the use of robots and aliens. For example, in the novel, Cereborg: Inception, the artificial intelligence, Cerebrum, attempts to convert all life into Cereborgs- robots, androids, and synthetics under logic and programming. In the novel, Slugs and Bugs: Invasion, alien pods housing Infectulons land all over the Earth and begin attaching themselves to humans to both mutate and control the sentient peoples of the world.

Horror

Every tale has elements of horror. This can range from the spooky and unsettling to downright disturbing. Mr. Somerville uses horror as a challenge to the protagonists. How they face the horrors of their story or how they react to them, shapes the characters and, vicariously, the entire Anaxverse.

Novels and Books

Mr. Somerville's novels currently number more than a million words in scope. In chronological order they are:

Phantom: Revenge

Phantom: Revenge is a novel that follows the characters Dagan Erebus and Amelia Williams. It focuses on the possession of mind and spirit through ghostly means, but, in essence, it is a metaphor for the inevitable corruption of those that rise to power, be it through a life of crime or even attempting to serve justice.

Giggle Night: Trixie's Trial

Giggle Night: Trixie's Trial follows the characters Trixie Goodwin and The Giggler. It is about superheroes and villains and focuses on the loss of sanity, but, in essence, it is a metaphor for how those that are cast aside or mistreated can choose to give in to the alienation and pain, and lose their minds, or do everything they can to remain themselves and fight against the judgments of others. It also delves into exploring how bureaucracy and power can undermine good values.

The Anax: Call of the Cursed One

The Anax: Call of the Cursed One is a novel that follows the characters of Evelyn Addams and The Anax. It is about fears and sorrow and how they can control minds and souls, but, in essence, it is a metaphor exploring dominance and submission, and how we choose to live in the past or can rise above it and change, even when we do not think that we can.

Desideratum: Blood Bonds

Desideratum: Blood Bonds follows the characters of Absinthe Van Gothen and Brone Lorcan. It is about transformations, both mental and physical, brought on through hardship or devotion, but, in essence, it is a metaphor for how even the most beautiful people can be monstrous within and how some of the ugliest people can be the most beautiful, kind souls. It teaches that beauty is skin deep, but that redemption can be attained by those that try.

Of Sex and Souls: Noir Nights

Of Sex and Souls: Noir Nights follows the characters of Walter Riley and Dionyza.

Cult of Corruption: The Summoning

Cult of Corruption: The Summoning follows the characters of Bo Wyatt and Nergal. It is about how corruption can be sexy and easy, and how much more challenging it is to live a pure, innocent life, but is, in essence, a metaphor about how growing up and becoming independent is a path wrought with challenges. One can choose an easy path, but the easiest way is seldom the right way to live. The corruption takes the place of drugs, alcohol, and other vices that can sway a good, young soul, and put them on a path where they lose themselves, their families, and their values.

Cereborg: Inception

Cereborg: Inception follows the characters of Chieko Naru, Howard Wyatt, and Emily Harbrook. It is about the conflict between traditions and progress, and how technology may have more control in the lives of people than they do, themselves, in essence it is a metaphor between three perspectives. Those that value progress and see technology as a good thing, can, in fact, balance this concept with tradition as seen with Chieko. Howard represents those that refuse to progress, believing that the world works just fine without technology, and how these people distrust it, possibly at their own peril. While Emily represents someone that is controlled by their technology- the person that cannot live without a smart device because it has become an extension of their bodies and minds, and without the device, they feel lost, anxious, or even scared.

Slugs and Bugs: Invasion

Slugs and Bugs: Invasion is a novel that follows the characters of Justine Day and the Over-Master. It focuses on how those that feel weak can rise up against all odds to try and escape the totalitarian hold of wealth, power, and politics, but in essence, it is a metaphor for the corporate world. It takes place in the Erebus Building and the creatures that Justine faces grow as she ascends the building, with the mindless slugs at the bottom up to the minders at the top. This eludes to the corporate ladder where the CEO or Over-Master controls from the top of the ladder, with his tentacles reaching down through the ranks. His managerial minded order the worker caste slugged to do their mindless tasks. Corporations rob humanity of their minds and souls and leave them either empty shells with broken dreams or twists them into insidious monsters that lose their humanity for wealth and power.
