The Shadowed
"I feel the shadow- and I like it!"
Introduction
The Shadowed are a faction of spirits, coming from the Shadowlands and headed by The Anax. Their intent is revenge upon those that did Anaximanes Ravenhurst wrong all those years ago.
Lead Positions
The Anax
The Anax is currently enslaved through his fetter.
Evelyn Addams
Evelyn Addams alone survived the night at Ghost Nook, and found a way to enslave The Anax through his fetter.
Unit Types
Shadow Lord
The Shadow Lord is a being of immense power from the Shadowlands. Able to warp its appearance, a shadow lord usually takes on the look of a shadow person. They have the capability to create additional shadowed, twisting their souls into the model of perfection they seek. They have long, tendril like claws and are able to use the darkest, most powerful of magic. The most notable known shadow lord is The Anax.
Shadowed
The Shadowed are spirits whom have given up their soul to The Anax. The Anax reaches into the victim's mind, discovering their primary fear. He then exploits that fear, making his victim live it. Each one is slightly unique, based on the fears of the person transformed. He subjects them to their most petrifying thoughts, and only relents when they have agreed to give up their souls. The instant they do, they become Shadowed. Gray skinned, green eyed, servants to a Shadow Lord.
Reanimated
With the addition of Evelyn Addams, the Shadowed are reinforced with any matter of reanimation. Using shadow magic, life itself is renewed in the dead. These have an extension of the necromancer's will.

Shadowed Units
Acrophobe
Acrophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared heights in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves fall an infinite number of times, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, acrophobes grow leathery wings from their defiled backs. Where once they feared heights, now they relish nothing more than soaring into the sky, flocking into great black clouds of darkness.
Arachnophobe
Arachnophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared spiders in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves covered in crawling, biting spiderlings, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, arachnophobes have bulbous spidery abdomens and six chitin, armored legs. They can spray their prey with shadowy webbing, climb any surface, and inject a glowing poison into the victim’s body who will then become a shadowed arachnophobe as well! Linked page: Arachnophobe
Automatonophobe
Automatonophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared statues and mannequins in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves petrify and harden, forever frozen and silent, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Unlike other shadowed, these minions have no claws and make much more powerful defensive units due to their rock hard skin. They grab their prey and the same rocky surfaces that cover them forms wherever they touch the victim until those hapless souls become a shadowed automatonophobe as well! Page Link: Automatonophobe
Autophobe
Autophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared solitary loneliness or abandonment in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves alone and forgotten, ignored until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, autophobes have the unique ability to become invisible. They make up the assassins of the Shadowed. Sneaking up on their prey, they stab their claws into the victim’s body who will then become a shadowed autophobe as well! Linked Page: Autophobe
Claustrophobe
Claustrophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared confined places in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to endure being trapped in ever more cramped spaces until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, claustrophobes have the unique ability to trap their foes with their own bodies. Some will wrap around their prey like amorphous blobs and others will make a part of their very spiritual body into a cell of some kind. They make up the jailors of the Shadowed.

Coulrophobe
Coulrophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared clowns in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to endure being assaulted and teased by clowns until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, coulrophobes have the unique ability to use props to convert others into shadowed clowns. A pie, a squeaky nose, even a terrifying rubber chicken can all be used insidiously so that the last laugh is the coulrophobe’s! No, not that coulrophobe, the other coulrophobe!

Gerascophobe
Gerascophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared growing old in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves age an infinite number of times, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, gerascophobes usually are deceptively weak looking. Resembling extremely elderly humans, they walk slowly with hunched backs and thin limbs, but the moment their victim’s guard is lowered, they pounce, running, jumping, or climbing as quickly the strongest mortal athlete. Once they close in, it is only a matter of time until they share their curse with their victim, tearing out their souls for the Anax and leaving a shriveled gerascophobe in their place.

Horror
In the dark foreboding Shadowlands wander creatures of unspeakable evil. Tormented souls of bygone eons and aliens from other worlds whose souls wound up in the same accursed place and those of humanity stalk the darkness. These alien souls are often called horrors as their very makeup and aura make them unnatural or inconceivable by the perceptions of mortal humans. Of varying shapes, sizes, and powers, horrors are macabre monsters, and are generally powerful. However, the Anax and other Shadow Lords of the Outer Darkness have collected enough human souls that they can actually face and even enslave these unthinkable monstrosities. The minds, however, of these aliens are beyond comprehension and so are their powers. They may kill a human, steal its soul, or literally mutate their body and spirits unsettling into mockeries.

Nosophobe
Nosophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared illnesses in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves become infected with debilitating and horrific infectious diseases, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, nosophobes also have the ability to spread a shadow disease to their victims. They can spew noxious clouds, and the infected mortals will eventually die and become nosophobes as well.

Odontophobe
Odontophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared dentistry in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch their teeth pulled an infinite number of times, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, odontophobes carry rusted, twisted dental tools with them, brandishing them to their victims and using them to elicit absolute fear. They usually have massive mouths full of teeth or have teeth growing from multiple places on their bodies.

Pediophobe
Pediophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared dolls in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to endure dolls or having themselves being nothing more than a doll an infinite number of times, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, pediophobes generally have plastic, wooden, or porcelain flesh. Their joints are artificial and they are generally silent, though occasionally one may have a mouth like a ventriloquist dummy. They can attach shadow strings to a mortal to control them like a marionette puppet in order to terrify and take their souls.

Pyrophobe
Pyrophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared fire in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves burn and their flesh boil and sizzle an infinite number of times, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, pyrophobes are wreathed in shadowy flames. These fires burn the soul and mind, leaving the flesh completely unblemished. Basking in the unholy glow, everywhere that they walk, their freezing flames follow.

Shadow Demon
The Shadow Demons hail from the Void- a realm within the Outer Darkness where only emptiness exists. Think of a great nothingness. Eleanora reached into the Void, and tore pieces of it into our world, giving the emptiness a rudimentary consciousness, not unlike a alchemist’s golem. The Shadow Demons, while not intelligent, served their purpose, and during her lifetime, they stopped the occasional witch hunter that had tracked Eleanora to her tower. However, after her death, they were left to their own devices. During the day, they are harmless, and are invisible to mortals except those few that can see the spirit world. However, at night, they can interact with the physical world, and that is when they are dangerous. Now, they scurry about the woods every night, seeking any human foolish enough to enter their territory to claim the mortal flesh as their own! If they possess a human, that person degrades into a Shadow Corpse, a shambling dead body that partakes in dark debauchery every night. Many victims on Ghost Nook Island can be traced to the Shadow Demons, rather than The Anax, for he hunts only on Halloween, and the rest of their year, the dark forest belongs- to them!
The Shadow Demons that lurk about The Haunted Woods were conjured by Eleanora Blackwood to keep her territory free of uninvited guests. After Eleanora died, the creatures remained trapped in the woods, forever stuck in the physical realm. While the demons, themselves, are technically demonic entities- having never been physical, the Shadow Corpses are physical indeed. The demons insinuate their essences into the bodies of mortals, controlling their minds and bodies. The person within slowly diminishes until their soul is little more than an iota. The demons, having not been physical, do not understand concepts such as arms and legs, but they desire to ‘feel’. Pleasure or pain, it makes no difference, everything is erotic to them! The humans they possess die, but rot at a much slower rate, and become little more than shambling zombies. When the bodies become too decrepit, the demon within will seek out new prey to possess. Fighting a single Shadow Corpse would be rather easy, but the creatures fill the woods. They only rise at night, and like vampires, they burn to ash in sunlight. Therefore, before the sun rises each morning, they make shallow graves to hide from the daylight.
Shadow Hound
Shadow Hounds are shadowed primarily converted in the frequencies of the Outer Darkness. There, in these evil realms of spirit, lurk souls that have done foul things in the Physical World, tainting their spiritual vibrations and causing them to exist in the hellish planes. The Anax seeks the souls of the living, but usually has only Halloween night to collect souls from the mortal plane. However, in the Shadowlands, he spends all his time, lording over the Shadowed. His minions constantly seek out other spirits of that particular realm and those above it in the Outer Darkness, and fight them in order to add them to the faction. Shadow hounds are such beings. Generally forged from the hell hounds of Tartarus, they are bestial in nature. Hunters for the Shadowed, these hounds prowl the Shadowlands to possess, corrupt, and convert any prey that they find. If summoned to the physical realm, they are incorporeal enough to incorporate their being into the human to create a macabre hybrid entity known as a shadowtaur.

Shadow Person
Shadow People are shadowed primarily converted in the frequencies of the Outer Darkness. Shadow people are such beings.
Generally forged from the lost souls off the dimension known as the Underworld, they are cruel in nature. Lanky, they are shadow itself but for their eyes and occasionally their mouths. They instill instant dread in mortals that encounter them and are one of the favored tools the Anax employs in the Physical World when he can. Shadow people cannot harm the physical body because even in the Physical World they are incorporeal, however, they can scare someone to death or drain them dry of energy and once the victim dies, the shadow people can claim that poor soul before it can escape to the Inner Light, ripping it and filling it with shadowy malice.

Shadow Queen
Shadow Queens (or Lords) are shadowed primarily converted in the frequencies of the Outer Darkness. Shadow queens are such beings. Generally forged from the lost souls off the dimension known as the Shadowlands, they are extremely powerful. They are akin to the Anax himself, boogeymen that prey on the other souls of the Outer Darkness, converting them into minions.
When Anaximanes Ravenhurst died at the hands of the mob, assembled and led by Reverend Roger Addams, he became a very unique type of spirit. These boogeymen have substantial mental fortitude and unequaled misanthropy. Most spirits in the Outer Darkness have some ability to corrupt, enslave, or absorb other souls, but these shadow lords are far beyond. Capable of gorging on unlimited souls, they seek their dark goals, subverting anything that crosses their path. They wage war against each other in the Shadowlands, but the Anax has managed to make a substantial claim in the terrifying realm, and even taken a handful of the others as minions. Capable of almost everything that their master is, they are a formidable foe indeed. Evelyn Addams momentarily became a shadow queen for a scant moment in the novel, The Anax: Call of the Cursed One.

Shadow Scythe
Scythes or Shadow Scythes, are shadowed primarily converted in the frequencies of the Outer Darkness. There, in these evil realms of spirit, lurk souls that have done foul things in the Physical World, tainting their spiritual vibrations and causing them to exist in the hellish planes. The Anax seeks the souls of the living, but usually has only Halloween night to collect souls from the mortal plane. However, in the Shadowlands, he spends all his time lording over the Shadowed. His minions constantly seek out other spirits of that particular realm and those above it in the Outer Darkness, and fight them in order to add them to the faction. Scythes are such beings. Generally composed of specters and other incorporeal spirits of the Outer Darkness, they are silent and float. However, they have a long arm that is shaped like an actual scythe, hence their name. Resembling the mythological Grim Reaper, they slice the very souls of their prey, sharing their eternal fate by turning them into shadow scythes as well.

Shadowtaur
Shadowtaurs are shadowed primarily converted in the frequencies of the Outer Darkness. Shadowtaurs are such beings. Created when a shadow hound possesses a living human or an incorporeal soul, these amalgamations stand horrific. The original soul loses much of its former cognizance, and often, the shadowtaurs are incapable of speech. Growling, drooling monstrosities, they work as cavalry in the legions of the Shadowed.
Shadow Wraith
Shadow Wraiths are shadowed primarily converted in the frequencies of the Outer Darkness. Shadow wraiths are such beings. Created when a wraith of the Physical World or the Outer Darkness becomes shadowed, they are just as they were before- cold, greedy, and obsessed. Wraiths usually suffer from acute obsession over an object or place, but in the case of shadow wraiths, they singularly focus only on acquiring souls for the Anax. Incorporeal, even in the Physical World, they are capable of physically possessing a human body until the sun rises, banishing both wraith and victim into the Shadowlands.

Shadow Zombie
Shadow zombies are shadowed primarily converted in the Physical World by either Soul Eaters or Soul Slicers. Consuming and tearing the spirit apart, little is left of the mind. The tortured soul becomes composed of black liquid hatred and meanders about looking for others to taint. Once the victim becomes held by the shadow zombie, its shadowy ooze flows over their body, permeating their soul, leaving only another mindless in their wake. Little more than cannon fodder, the Shadowed consider these broken beings little more than spiritual cannon fodder.

Soul Eaters are shadowed primarily converted in the frequencies of the Outer Darkness. Soul eaters are such beings. Generally composed of specters infamous for their desire to consume, the soul eaters can literally drain the spirit and willpower from their victims leaving only shadow zombies behind.

Slicer
Slicers or Shadow Slicers, are shadowed primarily converted in the frequencies of the Outer Darkness. Slicers are such beings. Generally composed of specters and other incorporeal spirits of former killers, murderers, and assassins, they excel at hand-to-hand combat and wield green glowing knives for their hands at the end of long, misshapen arms. They will stab and skewer the soul or mortal, converting them into shadow zombies.

Trypophobe
Trypophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared tiny holes in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves stabbed with needles or become covered in countless holes, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, trypophobes have the ability to force needles of unholy shadow from the thousands of tiny holes covering their bodies. They can use it as a defense mechanism, like a porcupine, or use it as an attack by firing them outward. Once they make contact with a human soul, they force their way through it, filling the soul with holes and evil, and turning the victim into a trypophobe as well.

Tyrannophobe
Tyrannophobes are shadowed, who irrationally feared tyranny in life. When faced with the Anax or one of his minions, the victim was forced to watch themselves become one with the state- the state being the Anax and his desires, until their minds broke and they exchanged their souls for peace. Like all shadowed, they have sharp, glowing claws and swarm with black ink-like shadows on their bodies. However, tyrannophobes have the ability to coerce the minds through mental and emotional manipulation. Were they vegan? Now they will watch as they gorge on meat, likely slaughtering the animal itself. Did they believe in socialism? Now, within their mind, they will be subjected to watching themselves be the perfect consuming capitalist. Whatever their original views of government, politics, and ethics, the precise opposite will crush them until their wills buckle and their souls lie corrupted.

Desideratum: Blood Bonds
In Desideratum: Blood Bonds, the Shadowed and The Anax are used in addition to the reanimated from Evelyn Addams to claim the Scepter of Osiris. They face off against Absinthe Van Gothen at the Portland Museum.
