Biography

Pre-Desideratum: Blood Bonds

Heloise Laveau is a daughter of Marie Catherine Laveau. Heloise was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo and quite powerful. Out of all her many siblings, she was always the most belligerent and foul tempered. She liked to use voodoo for darker more selfish reasons than her mother or siblings ever considered. Always in her mother’s shadow, Heloise desired to become even more powerful, which led her to consult spirits outside the loa. Always seeking to increase her dark powers, Heloise decided to collect the souls of bokors, stealing their magic to become stronger. She traveled to Haiti and soon after, many bokors were found shriveled and desiccated. One of these corpses belonged to the siblings Arion and Ayana Bishop. Their mother, a powerful priestess as well, and the two young adults, arrived in Haiti and began to search for whatever evil had done this.

They tracked Heloise down at the Grand Cemetery of Port-au-Prince and fought her. In the end, as the Bishops watched, Heloise sucked the life and power from their mother, but their mother had cursed herself, expecting to lose to the evil woman. Heloise absorbed the poisonous curse into herself and it unleashed the trapped souls of all the bokors whom she had devoured. Having lost this accumulated power because of their mother’s actions, Heloise turned on the siblings, but the spirits of the bokors protected the pair until they were safely away.

Heloise swore to exact revenge upon the two Bishops. She followed them back to Louisiana and sent hordes of zombies after them. The pair survived attack after attack but could not manage to kill Laveau. They turned to the loa, and while not as powerful as their mother or grandfather, the spirits did listen. Their last fight with Heloise ended in a sound stalemate and she fled, now seeing that the Bishops were a true threat. Abandoning her vengeance, she decided it could wait until she gathered more power.

She began moving across America, looking for power to again consume. If she could not have the power of the bokors, she would take from any magic user that she could find. After defeating and absorbing the soul of a necromancer, she found herself intrigued. There were forces more powerful than the loa- demons, and Ah Pwash reached out to her. The Bishops tailed her, always harassing her and interrupting her plans, but in Portland, she found a vast ripe graveyard in which to raise a massive army, and her new ally in the Outer Darkness helped with that. The more she used his power and shadow magic, the more it consumed her sanity until all Heloise could imagine was summoning the demon lord into the world and watching as he scoured all life from it.

The Bishops followed her to Portland and for months they tried to attack her stronghold in Lone Fir Cemetery, but she had a seemingly endless supply of dead to reanimate. During this time, because of the monsters in the area, the Bishops happened to stumble upon Roy McCoy, who told them about Sanctuary. They took up his offer, and found it to be a great base of operations. However, after watching Heloise kill anyone that ever helped them, they refused aid from the other Night Stalkers, choosing to train for days and plan an attack on their own.

Desideratum: Blood Bonds

In Desideratum: Blood Bonds, Heloise is just settling in at Lone Fir Cemetery. When the Bishops finally made their move, they found that Heloise’s power rivaled even the loa spirits like Baron Samedi. They wound up defeated and bound to be sacrificed as the final souls that would bring Ah Pwash into the Physical World. But as Heloise gloated over her victory, Absinthe Van Gothen arrived and fought her. The demonic magic proved even too great for the Van Gothen to handle, and soon, she found herself on the ground with Heloise prepared to land the death blow, but the fighting between the two had given the Bishops enough time to loosen their bindings, and they killed Heloise, saving Abby and the world. Heloise died on the spot, but before her soul could move on to the Outer Darkness to empower Ah Pwash, the loa spirit, Samedi, took it. Now, she finds herself imprisoned by the loa of death, unable to escape as he toys with her for fun. However, if anyone could claw their way back into the Physical World, it would be Heloise Laveau.
