"As the eldest blood witch among us, I shall control the girl like a puppet."
Biography
Pre-Desideratum: Blood Bonds
Gwenhwyfar Pennoyer was born in the 1600’s in Llangollen, Denbighshire in Wales. At the time, charms and salves were typical along with written spells. Coming from a family of healers, Gwen was shocked to see women from the area taken and hanged for witchcraft. As she grew older, she discovered that her own family were witches. They taught her the healing magicks of the Inner Light, and she excelled at blood work in particular. Around the time that she turned twenty, she met a woman named Eleanora Greenwood. Both of them witches, they set about trying to form their own coven. They met three other girls in time- Marioun Meldrum from Scotland, Róis O'Reilly from Ireland, and Calybrid Mylecharane from the Isle of Man. Together, they formed a coven and did great works for the people of Britain. However, the witch trials escalated. People died in order to ensure that this coven would continue to help the poor and destitute.
However, the church authorities learned the names of the witches, and when they could not stop them, they went after their families. Irish, Scottish, Welsh, English, and Manx, their families were rounded up and slaughtered. The witches went into despair, forsaking the teachings that they had followed and instead turning to shadow. Gwenhwyfar Pennoyer changed her name to Sangwen Darkblood, and became a twisted version of her former self. She used blood magicks to kill and maim the supporters of the church in revenge for what Christianity had done to her innocent, loving family. In time, the coven sisters would turn on each other, and for more than two centuries they seldom had contact.
In recent times, the Countess Elizabeth Báthory summoned the blood witch to Portland, Oregon. Lord Ivor planned to summon the Nightbred goddess, Nuit, and the countess knew of a monster hunter interloper. Absinthe Van Gothen would come to stop the rituals, but one of her strengths would be her weakness. She wore the Blood Suit, an artifact made from the very blood of Vlad Țepeș. Báthory reasoned that Sangwen’s blood magicks would affect the suit and the witch agreed. When she arrived she found that her old coven sister, Eleanora Blackwood, had become a Mortem vampire. Sangwen was disgusted, but realized how treacherous the Nightbred could be. She assumed that the countess would convert her into a vampire slave just as Ivor had done to Eleanora, and refused to allow it. Instead, she planned to enchant the Blood Suit, turning Absinthe into her puppet and use the Van Gothen to eliminate the Báthory and Ivor and take the power of Nuit for herself.
Desideratum: Blood Bonds
In Desideratum: Blood Bonds, Sangwen arrives with many other notable figures to the Shanghai Tunnels to be present for the summoning of Nuit. Absinthe eventually made her way through the Shanghai Tunnels on the evening that Nightbred prepared to summon the goddess. Sangwen eagerly awaited the hunter and the pair fought. Sangwen looked to easily defeat Abby, however, in earlier battles of the night, Abby and Vlad learned how to work together to manipulate the Blood Suit, effectively making it a weapon. When Absinthe attempted to flee, Sangwen cast a spell named Blood Call, where all the blood in an area would be pulled to her. Normally, this would empower the witch, and in this case, it was meant to drag an unwilling Absinthe back to Sangwen’s side. However, Abby formed a massive spike from the suit and detached it. Because of the immensely powerful pull that Sangwen cast, the spike impaled the witch and she died.
