Elemental
In folklore, an elemental is a mythic being that is described in occult and alchemical works from around the time of the European Renaissance, and particularly elaborated in the 16th century works of Paracelsus. They correspond to the four Empedoclean elements of antiquity: earth, water, air, and fire, respectively. In reality, these are the natural spirits of the Physical World. The Outer Darkness and the Inner Light crash and meet in the Physical World that we think of as reality. In this dimension, these two opposing forces generate the laws of physics and the fabric of reality, but, in truth, our world is really no less spiritual or incorporeal than any other dimension, but since we are born here and formed here- a spiritual meshing of light and shadow, we think of ourselves as solid and spirits as ethereal.
When the conditions are correct for it, seemingly inanimate matter can be infused with spirit, in a way, no different than how a human is really just a lot of water and a few minerals. These non-biological entities become away and often learn to mimic human bodies in order to better interact with the world around them. Oftentimes, elementals are focused and singularly minded on a particular task, usually the very actions that spawned them into being. Thus, a water elemental might want nothing more than to flood an area or make a gentle rain fall, and a fire elemental may want to burn down an entire forest or merely give warmth to cold animals. Their personalities, however, never shift and they do not know the emotional chaos of mortals. For example, an angry earth elemental will forever be forged that way.
In both Eastern and Western esoteric magicks, there can be found ways to work with or against elementals. Binding them away or forcing them to do certain tasks. In Desideratum: Blood Bonds, Absinthe Van Gothen unearths a fire elemental in the Forest National Park, defeating it with a magical frost bomb. That elemental had been sealed away by the local Native American tribes in centuries past, bound to stop it from ravaging the entire area in flames. Yet, Abby also encountered icy rock elementals on the summit of Mount Hood. These beings had lived there since the forming of the mountains when glaciers stretched across the land, and they, the opposite of the fire elemental, protected that land from any perceived threats- the Blood Suit causing Absinthe to appear to be a creature of darkness.
