Character Types: Professions

Character Typing

In the Anaxverse, character typing helps provide additional detail on a character and what they are proficient at. All characters have a typing in some way. These are usually metaphysical descriptions of their character, and can range from profession classifications to faction classifications.

Profession Types

Throughout the lore of Brandon Somerville, characters from all sorts of walks of life are used. Following are a list of characters that can be interacted with in some way in the lore, and the type they have. The list is arranged alphabetically.

CEO

The CEO is the Chief Executive Officer, and manages the managerial positions. They are usually the founder of their own company, or at the least are the member whom is the highest ranking there. They have a lot of innate power and wealth associated with their character.

Cultist

Cultists can be both magically and physically powerful, though this is not true of all cultists. Following either a single entity or a set list of ideals, cultists are devoted to their cause. They care little for ramifications of their actions, only seeking to achieve the goal they have set upon themselves. While not all cultists are inherently evil, many are associated with evil factions.

Detective

Detectives are generally associated with a police force. Their job involves researching and finding people, and can have combat training in their repertoire. There are public and private detectives, and usually these characters are positively aligned.

Drug Dealer

Some professions are less respectable than others. Drug dealers work in an underground scene, taking commonly used drugs and either sell them at a marked up price, or alter them and truly turn a profit. Oftentimes drug dealers lack the moral fabric of the implications that they are hurting lives, and as such make good allies to morally questionable factions.

Employee

If the focus of specific events is at a workplace (such as the Erebus Building in Slugs and Bugs: Invasion), then many of the characters may be classified as an employee. These characters are generally minor, and lack additional powers beyond the role they fulfill by working for a major company.

Executive

If the focus of specific events is at a workplace (such as the Erebus Building in Slugs and Bugs: Invasion), then some of the characters may be classified as an executive. Executives are high end employees of a corporation. They decide much of the business's dealings, financial investments, and other major decisions for the company.

Ferryman

Ferrymen (or ferrywomen) are in the transportation business. In the lore, several incidents happen by lakes or rivers. Ferrymen help other characters traverse over these distances of water. Their combat effectiveness is shoddy, but they generally have keen eyes.

Goon

Goons are a general term for thugs, hired muscle, and other roles one can expect in a criminal operation. These roles usually don't have the largest responsibilities, but there have been a few notable exceptions. As corruption increases in the cities, goons become more and more in demand.

Hacker

Computer hackers have risen in prominence as technology begins to become a dominant presence in the world. Hackers are usually programming geniuses, and can exploit even the most carefully secured algorithms. They likely spend a lot of time on the dark web, and many follow a personal code for what is morally okay.

Manager

If the focus of specific events is at a workplace (such as the Erebus Building in Slugs and Bugs: Invasion), then some of the characters may be classified as a manager. While not the head of the company, managers help provide oversight on all the projects worked on at the company, and provide order to the employees.

Personal Assistant

If the focus of specific events is at a workplace (such as the Erebus Building in Slugs and Bugs: Invasion), then some of the characters may be classified as a personal assistant. A P.A. helps in the day to day activities of higher executives. They can act secretarial, or in a more active role.

Pornstar

Occasionally, adult models venture into jobs that require more hands on experience. These porn stars are sexually active, usually attractive, and provide an erotic break to much of the horror present in the lore.

Preacher

Preachers professionally give sermons at churches. Outside of this, they can be upstanding citizens, trying to push people to a greater existence; they can also be nefarious and deceitful. Preachers hold a lot of power, as faith remains a choice of belief over evidence. Some preachers blend the line between their line of work and cult leaders, but most of them remain well intentioned.

Scientist

In the Anaxverse, scientists range from the electrical to the biological. They can be good or evil, but regardless possess a high IQ and are generally caught up in experimentation (in whatever form that is).

Secretary

If the focus of specific events is at a workplace (such as the Erebus Building in Slugs and Bugs: Invasion), then some of the characters may be classified as a secretary. Secretaries are the face of the company, and are generally proficient in organization.

Security Guard

Security guards help provide a safe working environment. Headed by a security specialist, the guards are an extension of their will to provide a more stable foundation. They are generally powerful in combat, with years of practice honing their capabilities.

Security Specialist

A security specialist provides a level of defense and assurance to a company. This position is the lead of security, and are usually driven individuals whom have the best interests of the people they work with in mind. They are highly effective in combat, and have managerial skills as well.

Technician

At first glance, the technician and scientist are the same. While related, technicians focus more on the creation and optimization of technical devices. While scientists move from topic to topic, technicians will refine their project until it reaches a point of perfection.
