In English folklore, grindylow or grundylow is a creature in the counties of Yorkshire and Lancashire. Grindylows are said to grab children with their long sinewy arms and drown them if they come too close to the water's edge. In truth, a grindylow will take any meal it can get its slimy hands on. They resemble humanoid frogs and can survive in fresh or saltwater. They have extremely long, sticky tongues that they use to latch onto prey and pull it closer or into the water. Their bodies exude a powerful toxin, and making physical contact with a grindylow can poison an organism to death, but in the case of human females that have gone through adolescence, the toxins work as a mutagenic, and will transform the human woman into a female grindylow. They will no longer remember their human lives and stay in the water for the rest of their lives. The males will hunt and bring food back to the females, whose only job is to mate and breed.
