In Manx folklore, a buggane (or boagane) was a huge ogre-like creature native to the Isle of Man. Some have considered them akin to the Scandinavian troll. This is a rather poor analogy in regards to reality. Unlike trolls which are subterranean, bugganes live above ground and do not have regenerative powers. Somewhere between troll and sasquatch, they have long pointy ears, shaggy hair, and angry dispositions. Buggane skin color ranges from blue to dark grey and their fur color ranges from black to bright oranges and they have been sighted all over the world. The few that lived on the isle of Man have long since been destroyed, but in other places they have eked out a living and avoided mankind.

One example is ‘The Blue Man of Spring Creek’ which has been sighted for almost two hundred years. In fact, the Ozarks are home to many different tribes of bugganes and Muriel McCoy killed one near her hometown of Ava, Missouri. Bugganes have been called Skunk Apes in many parts of the southern United States. In the Vietnam war, American soldiers stumbled upon the local bugganes and called them Rock Apes, on account of the buggane’s natural instinct to lob boulders and rocks. In China, the bugganes are called yeren. All around the world, these beasts have been spotted. They do not like humans, but will abduct women as human females can birth more of their kind.
