Imps, like all demonic energies, are spawned in the vast, infinite dimensions of the Outer Darkness. Not unlike how mortal children are small and must grow and develop, many demons start out as congealed dark energy which is an imp. Unlike how biology naturally causes a corporeal body to grow over time, with demons and dark entities, they grow as they consume soul energy. The more souls they consume, the greater they become. This is why the strongest and eldest of demons have entire cults that worship them, feeding them the souls of their worshippers and their sacrifices, imbuing the dark gods and empowering them further. Imps are the lowest caste of any demon force, regardless of affiliation.

They come in many different shapes and sizes, but usually mimic the type of energy that spawned them. For example, an Akamanian Imp will be red and vicious with little demon horns and a penchant for eliciting pain and the profane. A Lilin Imp will likely be small and shapely with exaggerated sexual organs. Ophidian, Nergalian, Ahpwashian, they all mimic their types of energy and appearance. Because in the Physical World imps have smaller mass and in the Outer Darkness they are composed of much less energy than a larger demon, imps are much easier to conjure in the corporeal world. Frail and weak by demonic standards, a large enough group of imps can easily overpower humans and they should not be underestimated in their cunning. They are out to steal souls or at least gain them for their masters, which will impart favor to the imp itself.
