The Xenopox Virus was created at MedUSA, a laboratory, in Oregon, though as a company, its facilities are spread across the globe. The base of the chemical concoction was the actual poison of the snake god, Ophion. In ancient times, anyone that Ophion bit would become snake people, reptilians. They would bite others, and the further away from Ophion’s original victim, the less human traits the victims would keep and the more of a reptile they would appear.
The original poison used had come from an ancient unearthed relic. Using the poison as a starting point, MedUSA began testing and tweaking the properties. The original idea of the board of directors and several of the scientists was to find a way to resurrect the snake god himself, perhaps by cloning. However, all attempts using the poison, failed. They then tested the poison on animals and people. By studying the effects on a microscopic level, they grew to understand the properties of the substance better. It caused mutations of varying types and degrees based on mixing with the DNA of different organisms. After the lab was destroyed by Siri Solen, the mutants that managed to escape sought refuge in the nearby sewer system.
However, back in 1947, an alien ship, filled with containers of infectulonian slugs, crashed near Roswell, New Mexico. All but one slug were contained and taken to a U.S. governmental lab named Area 51. The unaccounted device was taken from the crash site by a young Oliver Willoughby. His mother became infected and killed his father. Mother and son were then taken to Area 51 as well. For the next several decades, the aliens were studied. However, the labs were infiltrated by cultists that worship the snake god, Ophion. Working for MedUSA, a biotech company, the infiltrators managed to secure and steal a number of biological creatures. Several slugs were pilfered and wound up in time being tested at the MedUSA lab in Portland Oregon. Eventually concluded to be too dangerous, they were stored in biohazard barrels. Two employees were told to hide the containers out of sight, and they eventually agreed on a section of abandoned sewers. Some of the barrels were haphazardly thrown into the water. In some cases, the water, xenopoxian virus, and the infectulonian goo merged and became an almost sentient slime. The slimes scurry about the old sewers system of Portland, devouring any and all life. The absorbed creatures are converted into slime as well. When Absinthe Van Gothen came to the sewers to find Molly McCoy, she slew all the slimes that she came across.
