The Risen are undead that are animated and controlled through necromantic magicks. It is a collective term for the myriad macabre monstrosities that death magic can make in the Physical World. The Risen can be corporeal or incorporeal. The defining factor in determining risen from other undead is that the risen are mindless. They are controlled by the whims and power of something else be that a necromancer, lich, or any other practitioner of the dark arts. Risen have no concept of self preservation or will of their own and will relentlessly attack or guard without concern to themselves. Absinthe Van Gothen encountered many different risen in the Portland Museum. She was there to retrieve the artifact known as the Scepter of Osiris, but the necromancer, Evelyn Addams had come for the very same treasure upon the very same night. Eve used her death magicks to raise the skeletons of the museum, animal and human. She discovered that even fossils could be animated this way, having had some sort of closeness to the original bones, and she even raised mummies.
