In Norse mythology a giant, jötunn (plural jötnar/jǫtnar) is a type of entity contrasted with gods and other figures, such as dwarves and elves.  In reality, they are massive lumbering creatures that are shaped like massive humans.  There are many different varieties of giant, but the average giants are flesh toned and stand at around sixteen feet tall.  They are very loud and cruel, and giants tend to have no concept of how much strength that they are applying or how big they are.  Brutal and strong, when they interact with humans or other monsters, they treat them as if they were also giants and that can lead to terrible pain or death for the smaller creature.
