Nuit’s corruption of human blood works similarly, to some degree, as that of other demons from the Outer Darkness. Being a goddess more aligned with the night and death, her minions walk a line between the living and the dead. However, while her curse affects the spirit and is spiritual in essence, blood is a physical corporeal substance native to the Physical World. Like all genetic material in this chaotic place, every time a vampire forms, there stands a chance for mutation within their strain. Oftentimes, on these rare occurrences, the afflicted vampire obtains a singularly useful ability- perhaps to shape-shift or to sexually reproduce. In some cases, due to circumstances in a given area or population, a vampire strain might spread like wildfire. It could also be that people of certain descent and DNA might be more prone to become particularly affected by strains of vampirism.

The Napitsu Strain or Napitsu Vampires have generally grayish flesh. Having first developed during the time of the Akkadian Empire, they are mostly found in and around Mesopotamia with some of the highest populations in Iraq and Iran. They tend to have similar facial structure with their brows being described as “bat like”. The napitsu are not known for patience and they are generally very judgmental and ill tempered vampires. Likely, this is due to the history of their unlives. That area of the world has undergone countless cultural changes since the Akkadian Empire and they have weathered it all. They also have some powerful monster hunters as their enemies. Both the orders of Magi and the Islamic monster hunters hound them in their homes.

Napitsu also have another interesting ability in that they can whisper into the minds of their prey, similar to a nachzehrer, but in a much more focused, powerful way. The hunters most familiar with napitsu are prepared for this through mental conditioning. For the Islamic hunters, they rely on their prayers and faith to help aid their fearful minds. The Magi use ancient symbols and artifacts to help shield them from such things as jinn and shaitan (a type of Akamanian demon) can also sway the human mind and interfere with hunts. Napitsus delight in mentally forcing hunter groups to slay each other.
