In folklore, a wyvern (/ˈwaɪvərn/ WY-vərn, sometimes spelled wivern) is a bipedal winged dragon, usually depicted with a tail ending in a diamond- or arrow-shaped tip. As bipeds, wyverns often possess only two legs and no arms or front appendages. In reality, they were once dragons. However, the snake god, Ophion, used his poison to twist the creatures into his servants. Wyverns are bipedal and do have barbed tails- barbs filled with poison that can mutate mortals into ophidians. They can flap their massive wings to cause fierce winds and eject flame from their maws. Much more numerous in the Age of Myths, wyverns tend to hide in remote places as they are hated by mortal and dragon alike.
