Nuit’s corruption of human blood works similarly, to some degree, as that of other demons from the Outer Darkness. Being a goddess more aligned with the night and death, her minions walk a line between the living and the dead. However, while her curse affects the spirit and is spiritual in essence, blood is a physical corporeal substance native to the Physical World. Like all genetic material in this chaotic place, every time a vampire forms, there stands a chance for mutation within their strain. Oftentimes, on these rare occurrences, the afflicted vampire obtains a singularly useful ability- perhaps to shape-shift or to sexually reproduce. In some cases, due to circumstances in a given area or population, a vampire strain might spread like wildfire. It could also be that people of certain descent and DNA might be more prone to become particularly affected by strains of vampirism.

The Loango Strain or Loango Vampires generally have light to dark grey flesh. Having first developed shortly after Nuit’s defeat at the hands of Ra and the purging of Nightbred by Hatshepsut, the Loango were formed by the vampires that fled south from Egypt, originating in the Congo before spreading out. Because of this, their populations are mostly found in Africa, both western and eastern. Their eyes are generally that of red sclera with bright yellow or white glowing irises. Coming from many different tribes, they have a unity in their affliction, which they often see as a blessing.

Inyanga, Isangoma, and many other African magic users make up many of their ranks, and some of these vampires are quite ancient. They are generally quiet and watchful. They tend to observe, but once they release their emotions, they can become terrifying forces of destruction capable of unleashing strong magicks. On a more somber note, by using juju, the Loango can affect people over an infinite amount of space, but they must have had contact with the person or have an item that person touched. While many came to witness the summoning of Nuit, they were generally wise as ever and avoided most of the battles against Absinthe and the Night Stalkers as they saw no reason for war or the ways of Ivor, as their proverb would show. To them, if Ivor had remained reserved and quiet, his plans would have succeeded, but he roared too much, and lost for it.
