Chuck Jennings, brother to Dr. Chumley Jennings, lived a good life. Not as ambitious or as smart as his (originally thin) brother, Chuck worked a few different careers, eventually becoming a security guard. He liked to work the night shift and would stay up watching horror movies. Truth-be-told, he was a bit of a coward at heart, and though he liked the movies, they tended to spook him. Working at the museum in Portland was no different, he would watch his movies or sleep, make his rounds, and continue. A nice, quiet, simple life lived Chuck Jennings- until the night that he didn’t! An artifact, the Book of Thoth had been pilfered from the museum on Chuck’s watch, and the camera systems had been erased.

The police became involved and Chuck was seen as a suspect. Though Dr. Delores Beck, curator, vouched for the man, the museum almost fired him. They hired police to watch the building, and, vicariously, watch Chuck. Already on frayed nerves and knowing that his employment would soon end, the poor man found himself in a whole new world on the night that Absinthe Van Gothen came to collect the Scepter of Osiris. Just before she entered the museum, at the front of the building, Evelyn Addams and the Anax arrived. Chuck could not believe his wide eyes as he stared into the monitors and the Anax used his powers on the police outside, converting them into the Shadowed.

He rushed to escape the museum, and ran into Absinthe, but did not stay to chat, instead running out of the building, likely saving his own life. He was detained and questioned the next day by police, and told them what he had seen. However, they did not believe him. Eventually footage from his apartment building showed that he had run into his home earlier into the night. He was also questioned by federal agents, who were secretly there for the BDA. He was fired and begged his brother Chumley to get him a job at CereTech. Disliked by most people, Chumley found that Howard Wyatt, the head of security, would not sign off for Chuck to be hired due to the police reports and the theft on his shift. Chuck had unknowingly dodged another Anaxverse bullet.
